Linux Kernel 2.6.17 (instead of 2.6.15) would be nice as it supports MTU size till 9000 so Jumbo frames could be used. Without this having Gigabit NIC is only marketing.

Some kind of package manager like apt would be nice

Some form of file syncronisation/version control support

Powerful block storage virtualization

Full iSCSI target support, with support for virtual iSCSI targets for optimal division of storage

Authentication using Pluggable Authentication Modules, configured from the web-interface
