What is Optware
Optware provides a vast number of additional commands for the box, as well as a collection of software packages, which can be installed by means of a simple and easy-to-use packet-manger.
Optware is a community project on the Linksys NSLU2, but was ported onto a number of different platforms.
Optware for Raidsonic IB-NAS-Boxes uses the ts72xx feed and was initially created by HlD. The first introduction and discussion is here.
Supported Devices
Optware for Raidsonic works on the following devices:
- IB-NAS4220-B
- IB-NAS4210-B
- IB-NAS2001-B
- IB-NAS2000-B
- IB-NAS1000-B
Requirements
Your box needs to be running on an open firmware, which supports the installation of additional software by the "new_software"-mechanism. (Most boxes do or can be upgraded).
Optware needs a Linux filesystem to function. So the data partition of your box needs to be formatted in ext2 or ext3.
However, there is one package, which can be used with boxes, formatted in FAT32 or NTFS.
Installation
Copy the Optware package of your choice into the folder /public/applications/new_software and restart. The installation can take several minutes.
Users of the IB-NAS2001-B, IB-NAS2000-B, IB-NAS1000-B have to install this additional package. This will probably work only on ext2 or ext3 file systems.
Installation & Administration of Optware Software Packages
Connect to the box through telnet or ssh. The package manager is called ipkg.
ipkg update: updates the list of available packages
ipkg list: shows the list the available packages.
ipkg list_installed: displays the currently installed packages.
ipkg install name: installs the appropriate software package.
ipkg remove name: removes the appropriate package.
ipkg help will show additional options.
Download
optware-vc-0.1.tgz: Based on optware-hd-010209, but without rtorrent and corrected path (useful if spindown problems occur when using optware).
optware-vc-ntfs-0.2.tgz: as above, but for boxes with a data partition formatted in FAT32 or NTFS.
optware.tgz: original packet. Including mc, openssh, rtorrent 8.04, busybox 1.10.3, screen, coreutils
optware-hd-010209: Revised version, sets a path with /opt/ bin:/opt/sbin top front. Generates rsa and dsa-key at first run.
optware-t-hd-020909.tgz: As above, with integrated torrent webinterface.
